terrariums

This is my terrarium and your probably wondering what is in it, there are plants an betel's in this terrarium. Me and my partner Allison built this. The way we built this was we got a scope of dirt and we dumped it in are terrarium for the soil. Next we got are seeds and planted them. That was how made are terrarium. Do you see that dead plant way in the back of my terrarium, that plant is called barley. Are environment was wet. The environmental factor in my terrarium in my terrarium was all of the plants and a better. The Barley grew the very best in are terrarium. The seeds in my terrarium were Barley, Radish, Clover, Pea, and corn were the seeds that were planted. We had some stuff that effected are terrarium, they were betel's, sawdust grass, plants, water, and sun light. The betel's were called Darkling betel's. Out of five plants only one grew the best, and that was Barley. The one that grew the worst was pea. It didn't even grow!!!!!! I learned how to plant, how to work with a partner better, and what an environmental factor is. A environmental factor is a organism that affects something like a terrarium.

terrarium observation

Today in science I observed my terrarium. I noticed that my tallest plants in my terrarium was the pea plant. My last seed to sprout was the corn plant. I think the best growing plant in my terrarium is either the clover or the pea

The living environmental factor in my terrarium is the plants and the thing changing in my terrarium is that the plants grow bigger. The non living environmental factors in my terrarium have not changed at all. In my terrarium i have a betel and he likes grass more then dirt because it camouflages him.

If I had to recommend how to plant I would tell them to dig a hole and then drop the seed in, cover it up with soil then water the seed. My partner and i had to put a certain amount of soil in my terrarium and that amount was one and a half inches of soil in my terrarium.

Did you know that different seeds have different techniques because if you had a big seed and a little seed you would have to plant it deeper into the ground then the small seed and you would have to water it more.

I think that the seeds in my terrarium have a different environment because they are not in a big open space like youe supposed to find them. If i had the chance to build a terrarium again the thing i would do differently would be to get two of different seeds like to of radish barley and clove instead of two of corn, pea, and clover.

5th grade camp

This is a picture of me (Jake) , Nick, and robby sitting up against a tree. This tree in this pictureis not just a ordinary tree, it is a tree called George. The reason his name is george is because this tree has been a round longer then Goerge Washington. The thing I like about George is that he has like three branches that are carved that are easy to climb. I saw this tree in three classes, 1 Mr.Reed's wild life class, 2 Mrs. Laceys water cycle class, And 3 from Mr harrisons forrest community. My faviorite thing at camp was all the hikes because we got to see the wildlife and what it's like in the forest. The night activites were cool to my favorite night activity was string man because Mr. Reed tought us cool string figures with using string. The best one that Mr.Reed tought my group was the moving spear. My friend's in my dorm tought me how to make the misquetu and the blinking eye. later that night I learned how to make jacobs ladder. It is the hardest trick i know. you can make two other things from jacobs ladder too.

The Best Time Of Fifth Grade...Camp!!!!

There is only three more days until fifth grade camp!!!!. My bunk mate is Tyler. I know I'm going to have so much fun because Tyler makes me laugh so hard. I think i am going to have so much fun at camp because we get double the time of resse there. I think i am going to learn about nature and about the pond and stuff like that. My teacher Mr. Harrison has a class called pond study, That's where you learn about the pond and you have to take some samples and take them back inside and look at the samples with a microscope. My science teacher Mr. Reed has a class where you get on s bus and it takes you a couple miles down the road and you have to find your way back to camp, and you learn about nature at the same time. I'm looking forward to the long hikes and i am looking forward to the night activity's.

The Foss Plane Experiment

This is a picture of Ryan making a Foss plane. We made these in science. This was a experiment in the variables unit.

The way we made these was first we had to sand some Popsicle sticks into a special shape. Then we had to bend a straw in half and cut it so there would be two half's of a straw. After that we had to flatten out the edges of the straw. Next we got a straw and we had to pt both half's of the other straw into the one that we just got and that gives us are bases to keep up the top of the plane. Next we had to staple the Popsicle sticks to the bottom of the plane. Next we had to put on the propeller and the tail on the plane. After that we put a rubber band on the bottom of the plane. We had to spin the propeller to make the plane move. The way we tested the plane was we winded the plane up and then let it go and see how far it would go on a 234cm string. My plane went all the way across with 26 winds. We also did a test that you had to put two rubber bands on the plane. When we did that are plane went so much faster because it had twice the wind's!!!! What I learned was when you put two rubber bands on the plane, It goes faster because it has twice the wind's. The most important thing in this experiment was to get the plane moving. And this is what i learned doing the Foss plane experiment

Inauguration

Today was a very spacial day for the new president Barack Obama. He made history of being the first African American president of the U.S.A. His wife and kids were in the White House before Barack Obama. He became president at 12:06pm. Before he became president he had to do something called a Oath of office. A Oath of office is when you raise your right hand and a person reads something from a book and the elected president repeats what the person says. Barack Obama was voted president over John McCain by about 100 votes on November 4Th 2008.

Mike's Problem

I disagree with mike's decision because the water might have a soulition that Mike did not know about and there might have been a cemical that already disolved and that might be harm full to the underwater life

Helping Others

Helping Others
By; Jake Holscher
Helping others is important. Right! Well maybe you should help out the people who have no money. Well that’s what the Hospitality House can do. The Hospitality House can do. They provide food for the people that can’t afford to bye food. Hospitality House gives you a piece of paper that tells you how much food you can get for you and your family. When the whole fifth grade of Walled Lake Elementary School and, I went to the Hospitality House we saw the amazing racks of about 1,000 cans of food.

My class and I donated 970lbs of food. We even got to take a tour of the place and even put some food on the shelves!

I had a great learning experience of how these kids feel. I went all the way to Detroit to help out some pore kids. The people in my group handed out candy, Played Bingo, handed out presents and t-shirts. Then when we were reading stories to the kids. It felt so good helping someone who needs help. And that’s why its good to help someone.
